The Air4NRG project is proud to announce its participation in the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2026, hosting a dedicated policy session on 9 June focused on unlocking the potential of energy storage technologies. The session is organised by the LDES Cluster – Air4NRG, SCO2OP-TES and SEHRENE – and DG ENER.

Titled “Unlocking the potential of energy storage technologies and addressing regulatory barriers”, the session will bring together leading experts and policymakers to discuss the critical role of energy storage in Europe’s energy transition. As renewable energy sources become increasingly central to Europe’s energy mix, storage technologies are essential to stabilize energy supply, address price volatility, and promote seamless renewables integration.

The session will explore both the opportunities and challenges facing the energy storage sector, with a particular focus on identifying and overcoming the regulatory, financial, and operational barriers that currently limit widespread deployment.

Expert speakers include:

  • Carolina Cruz, Representative of the Long Duration Energy Storage Task Force at Energy Storage Europe
  • Maria Mendez, Communication and Dissemination Manager for EU-funded Research and Innovation projects at Zabala Innovation, representing Air4NRG
  • Laurent Lamy, Senior Advisor in Operation Department at Réseau de Transport d’Electricité (RTE)
  • Ernesto Lopez Vallet, Senior Advisor on Promotional Finance at the European Association of Public Banks

The discussion will be moderated by Paula Rey García, Head of Unit at the Directorate-General for Energy C1, European Commission.

This policy session represents an important opportunity for Air4NRG to contribute to the broader European conversation on energy storage and to share insights from the project’s work on innovative Isothermal Compressed Air Energy Storage (I-CAES) technology.

Join us on 9 June to engage in this crucial discussion about the future of energy storage in Europe.
