Sister projects and other EU initiatives

Air4NRG is part of a broader ecosystem of EU-funded projects and relevant initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Through these partnerships, Air4NRG aims to enhance the overall effectiveness of renewable energy solutions across Europe.

Sister projects

The project enhances its impact by collaborating with sister projects and EU platforms, fostering knowledge exchange and accelerating energy storage technology development.

Projects

SEHRENE

SEHRENE introduces a cutting-edge Electro-Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) system designed to enhance energy storage efficiency.

By addressing key inefficiencies in traditional ETES systems, our innovative technology aims to boost renewable energy adoption and aid in the decarbonization of industrial sectors, contributing to a sustainable and resilient energy future in Europe.

SCO2OP-TES

The SCO2OP-TES project is creating Europe's first pilot plant.

The goal is convert industrial waste heat into efficient energy storage using Molten Salt TES and sCO2 HEXs technologies. In collaboration with EU RTOs and SMEs, the project aims to validate TRL5, enhancing renewable energy integration and grid flexibility, and positioning Europe as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.

STORE2HYDRO

Store2Hydro optimises electricity storage by integrating reversible pump turbine technology into hydropower infrastructures

The project validates new pumped storage solutions, explores untapped reservoirs, and uses digital twin technology to improve efficiency, adaptability, and cost-effectiveness in hydropower operations.

LDES Cluster

The LDES Cluster is a collaborative initiative bringing together three Horizon Europe sister projects – Air4NRG, SCO2OP-TES and SEHRENE – focused on advancing innovative Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) technologies.

  • Air4NRG develops Isothermal Compressed Air Energy Storage (i-CAES) for high-efficiency, scalable solutions.
  • SCO2OP-TES pioneers Power-to-heat-to-power (P2H2P) systems integrating industrial waste heat for grid flexibility.
  • SEHRENE introduces Electrothermal Energy Storage (ETES) with extended durations and high efficiency for industrial and grid applications.

By leveraging these complementary technologies, the LDES Cluster aims to address energy storage challenges, support renewable integration, and enhance grid resilience to accelerate Europe’s clean energy transition.

Bridge

The project participates in the European Commission’s BRIDGE initiative. Through an active involvement in its Working Groups – focusing on business models, consumer engagement, regulation, and data management – Air4NRG contributes to shaping policies and innovative approaches.

Horizon result booster

Air4NRG benefits from the Horizon Result Booster, an initiative designed to enhance the dissemination and exploitation of Horizon projects’ results.
