FROM USE CASES TO MARKET READINESS: SHAPING THE FUTURE OF ENERGY STORAGE
As part of the AIR4NRG video interview series, we spoke with EDP to learn more about their role in the project, the challenges encountered so far, and the next steps ahead.
EDP has been actively involved in defining the use cases for the AIR4NRG technology, contributing to both prototype validation and the development of the project’s business perspective. As explained in the interview, this work also includes the preparation of a baseline for future business use cases, supported by a preliminary market analysis. These activities are essential to ensure that the technology developed within AIR4NRG is aligned with real system needs and market expectations.
When asked about the most rewarding aspect of the project, EDP highlighted the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary and international team. Bringing together partners from different countries and backgrounds has enriched the project and strengthened collaboration around shared objectives in energy storage and grid applications.
At the same time, this diversity also presented challenges. In the early stages, aligning perspectives across countries and organisations, particularly on the definition of use cases for DSO and TSO applications, required significant effort. However, through internal brainstorming sessions and continuous feedback within the consortium, EDP and the project partners were able to converge on clear requirements and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Looking ahead, EDP’s next priorities within AIR4NRG include finalising the scalability and replicability analysis, advancing the market assessment, and contributing to the laboratory validation of the prototype. These steps will be crucial in assessing how the AIR4NRG solution can be deployed and adapted across different contexts.
